Harbor Dredge and Shoaling Analysis
A Small-craft Harbor fronting the Mississippi Sound was proposed following Hurricane Katrina; Geoscience Consultants was asked to assess/document the potential environmental impacts related to sediment transport and water quality prior to construction, and what changes may be created by siting a harbor structure at the location. In addition, there were financial/environmental questions about harbor shoaling/sedimentation and the need for maintenance dredging. This study examined, through analysis of data and integration of previous works, the questions associated with the coastal processes and how the local conditions may be changed if a harbor was constructed. The harbor was successfully constructed and environmental conditions were consistent with those predicted.
